In the heart of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, Chefornak sits among some of the strongest wind resources in the region. Chefornak has doubled its population over the last several decades, and its aging bulk fuel storage no longer meets its needs.

Rather than pay for the expense to repair the aging, too-small fuel storage, Chefornak chose to chart its path by investing in its future and a new renewable wind energy-heat system to meet its growing population and energy needs. The system allows Chefornak to keep money in the community rather than buying expensive, imported diesel fuel.
